Table d’hôte is available for evening meals by arrangement. This is a 4 course meal with an aperitif, ½ bottle of wine and coffee included. All food is prepared daily from fresh ingredients. Paul works with a French butcher and our meat is of the finest quality. Most people agree that the beef is ‘the best they have ever tasted’ and his sausages and bacon are in constant demand by both French and English alike. An example of a menu would be - homemade tomato soup, chicken basque, cheese and isle flotants. Though we have been known to throw a rib of beef on the barbecue for dinner which always seems to be a hit!

Guests are asked to leave their rooms by 10.00am on the day of departure and arrival time is after 2pm.

The house is a no smoking area but guests can smoke in the garden.

Sadly we are unable to take pets.

Attractions

Boussac is a commune of the department of Creuse in the Limousin region. It is situated on the bank of the Petite Creuse, a tributary of the River Creuse.

The current population is around 1700. Although there are prehistoric remains in the area, Boussac was established as a feudal village around 1050AD under the control of the Brosse family. After the revolution (1789) Boussac became an arrondissement and was a sub prefecture until 1926.

The chateau dates from the 12th century and was extended in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The Brosse family lost control of it during the revolution and it passed into the ownership of the commune. It was used as the seat of the sub prefecture, then as accommodation for gendarmes until 1960, when it was sold to private owners. It has since undergone significant renovation and can be visited by appointment.

A series of six tapestries known as the "Unicorn Tapestries" dating from 1460 were discovered in Chateau de Boussac, and moved to the National Museum of the Middle Ages (Thermes et Hôtel de Cluny, Paris 5eme) in 1882.

Other remains of historic interest from the 15thC and 16thC are the bridge, tapestries, town walls, houses in rue de la Cure, and church.

The departement of Creuse was created at the time of the French revolution. It is situated at the extreme North West of the Massif Central. La Creuse is known as the lake dristrict of France and has a great many attractions worth visiting. Lac de Vassiviere is perhaps our largest lake with 6 beaches, swimming, boat trips, restaurant, riding, canoeing etc. Or stick to the smaller local lakes for a picnic and swim.

There are an abundance of ancient Churches, abbeys and chateaux to visit with Boussac Chateau on your doorstep. And many beautiful parks and gardens waiting to be discovered.

We have outstanding facilities for walking, horse riding, fishing and cycling.

If it’s history you are after we have many historical towns, for example Aubusson with it’s famous Aubusson tapestries. Visit Limoges and it’s famous pottery.

Or a day trip to Oradour sur Glane a stark reminder of the tragedy of war.

Most weekends during the summer there is a fete, brocante or spit roast somewhere in the area to take part in and expositions abound.

The scenery is beautiful so if painting is your passion why not join Claude-Monet and come and paint.
